Notes you own. Knowledge you actually keep.

Mirajian is a local-first knowledge base that turns your Markdown notes into active recall, spaced repetition and study plans. Your files stay the source of truth. Your AI model stays your choice.

What you get

A library that gives something back

Most note apps store what you read. Mirajian is built around the harder problem: making sure you can still use it months later.

Ownership

Your notes stay yours

Every note is a plain Markdown file in a folder you choose, and the app mirrors that tree exactly. Open the same files in Obsidian, VS Code or a terminal — nothing breaks, because there is no proprietary store to escape from.

Retention

You remember what you read

Recall cards are generated from your own notes and keep the source sentence and line anchor, so every answer can be checked. Review with plain grades — Forgot, Kinda, Knew it — and a schedule that adapts to what you actually miss.

Direction

You know what to do next

Name a goal and Mirajian proposes the notes to study, then the tasks that move you from recall to analysis and creation. The daily loop closes on a fix you can name, not on a checkbox you can click.

Control

Your AI, your rules

Run local models through Ollama or LM Studio, or hosted models through OpenRouter — chosen per task, switchable at any time. Local-only mode refuses remote calls outright, and every remote call is visible before it happens.

Two modes, one library

Capture in one place, study in the other

Notes and study are not separate apps with separate data. They are two views of the same Markdown library.

Notes

Capture · organize · connect

  • Filesystem-shaped tree, editor and preview
  • Full-text search that rebuilds from disk
  • Wikilinks and a connection map of your library
  • Import PDF, EPUB and Notion exports through a review queue
  • Backups, Git snapshots and rollback

Study

Recall · practice · retain

  • Source-grounded recall cards with spaced repetition
  • Study plans from a goal, with a target depth and deadline
  • Tasks that climb from recall to analysis and creation
  • Slide decks and audio overviews generated from a note
  • A daily log that records the fixes you actually made

How it works

Three steps, no migration project

01

Point it at a folder

Start with an existing Markdown folder, or import PDFs, EPUBs and Notion exports. Imports land in a review queue with their source attached, so nothing enters your library unapproved.

02

Write and connect

Edit in the app or in any editor — the files are the same. Search finds what you wrote, links show how it fits together, and the audit tells you what is broken or missing.

03

Study what matters

Turn a note or a goal into cards, tasks and a review schedule. Each session shows the source behind the question, so a wrong answer points at the note that needs rewriting.

FAQ

Questions worth asking before you trust a note app

Are my notes sent to the cloud?

No, not by default. Mirajian runs on your machine and stores your notes as plain Markdown files. Local-only mode refuses every remote model call. When you do choose a remote model, the app tells you which model receives which notes before anything leaves your machine.

What happens to my notes if I stop using Mirajian?

Nothing. Your notes are ordinary Markdown files in ordinary folders. Open them in any editor, sync them with any tool, or walk away — there is no database to export and no format to convert.

Which AI models can I use?

Ollama and LM Studio for local models, OpenRouter for hosted models, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. You pick a model per task, and you can change it without touching your notes.

Can I import my existing notes?

Yes. Point Mirajian at a folder of Markdown files, or import PDF, EPUB and Notion exports. Imports are staged in a review queue with provenance, so you approve what enters your library.

Does it run on a server?

Yes. Mirajian runs locally or on a VPS with Docker, TLS, authentication and rate limiting. The same library works in both places because the files are the source of truth.

When can I use it, and what will it cost?

Mirajian is in development. Join the early access list and you will be among the first to try it; pricing is announced to that list before it goes public.
